Privacy
Last updated 29 August 2026
This is a working draft. We are finalising it against the New Zealand Privacy Commissioner guidance at privacy.org.nz before Pottle opens to the public.
Pottle fills your real supermarket trolley from a message. This explains what personal information we collect, why, and how we look after it. It follows the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
What Pottle does
You connect your supermarket account and Pottle acts on your behalf to add items to your trolley. Pottle never checks out, pays, or places an order. You review and pay on the supermarket's own site.
What we collect and why
Your name and the messaging number you contact us on, over WhatsApp or Telegram, so we know who you are and can reply. The items and trolley we build for you, and your shopping and spend history, so you can say the usual and see where a shop is cheaper. The session cookies needed to keep your supermarket account connected, which we store encrypted. We collect this directly from you and from the supermarket account you connect, and we only collect what we need to fill your trolley.
Signing in and your password
You sign in on the supermarket's own page. On a computer your password never passes through Pottle. On a phone we relay your keystrokes to that page and keep nothing. We never store your password.
Who we share it with
We share what is needed with the supermarket you connect, so we can fill your trolley. Pottle runs on trusted services that handle data for us: Vercel for hosting, Browserbase for the secure browser that signs you in, Anthropic for the AI that reads your messages, and Neon for our database. Some of these are overseas. We do not sell or rent your information, ever.
How we store and protect it
Your session data is encrypted and everything travels over a secure connection.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is connected. When you disconnect, by telling us to disconnect one store or everything, we delete your stored session and data.
Seeing and correcting your information
You can ask what we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Most of it is already in your chat. Email hello@pottle.co.nz.
Your choice
Connecting is optional and you can disconnect at any time.
